Terribly sad news reaches us this morning that Andrew Jack, the actor behind Major Caluan Ematt in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi and the voice of Moloch in Solo: A Star Wars Story, has passed away after a brief battle against Coronavirus.

Born 28th January 1944, Andrew had worked on more than 80 films since the 1980s as a dialect coach, working in the Star Wars galaxy with Daisy Ridley and John Boyega and helping performers with their alien languages. Over the course of his career he worked with Robert Downey Jr. in 1992’s Chaplin and Pierce Brosnan on GoldenEye in 1995. He also created the Middle-earth accents for the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, teaching them to the cast and designed and taught the accents for the Greeks and Trojans in 2004’s Troy.

We were fortunate enough to interview Andrew at SWFFD back in 2018:

To GFFA fans he will always be best remembered as Major Ematt, and to anyone who ever met him as a gentleman. Our condolences from the Fantha Tracks team.
