Diablo IV is the newest installment in the franchise that goes back a long time. It is a hack’n’slash game with RPG elements full of fast-paced action. This time it is set in an open world with various waypoints and areas to discover, dungeons to explore and bosses to defeat.
The game seems to be doing quite well, getting a lot of positive reviews and feedback, and it also plays well. It has some minor bugs, looks stunning and the story is memorable with some great characters. There are a lot of side quests that will keep you occupied for a long time.
It was developed by Blizzard Entertainment, which is one of the biggest gaming companies in the world. With all that in mind there are still some issues with the game and here is a list of some simple quality of life changes that could improve the experience for all players.
Diablo IV needs to address some of the players concerns, especially with the smartphone ban possibility in some schools in the United States, which could impact the amount of players in their other game which is Diablo Immortal.
Cheaper Cosmetics
First, it is great that there are many customization options in the game, and every microtransaction is all about looks, and there are no pay-to-win mechanics in the game at its release. Opposite to some other games like casino slots for real money, where you can win big, here all you will get is a new, fancy virtual helmet, weapon skin, or some other type of cosmetic for your character or a horse. It fits better with the overall theme of the game, but they are still quite expensive. It will cost around $30 to purchase one cosmetic set for a character which is almost half the price of the full game. It would be much more accessible, and more people would be willing to spend money on microtransactions if they got just a bit more content there but keep it all cosmetic of course.
Designated Tabs for Gems and Sigils
Another quick change is to add two more tabs to the player’s inventory. Gems should not take so much space in your main inventory, and they should have their own designated tab, where you could store any gem you’d find, especially with additional tiers of gems seemingly coming to the game in the near future. Another tab that should make an appearance is the Sigils tab. Because it has shared space with all the potions and consumables, you often find yourself getting a couple of sigils in one nightmare dungeon and not being able to pick them up.
Another function connected to the inventory that would be a fine addition is a filter option. You can already sort your inventory but only in one way, by item type. It would be impressive to have the ability to sort it by item score, rarity, or even a filter to search for a specific item in your stash.
Smoother Teleportation
This part is all about using teleportation. Since all the dungeons are scattered throughout the map, it means that every nightmare dungeon you start will be some distance away from the nearest waypoint. It is only logical that you should be able to choose an option to fast travel to the dungeon immediately, similarly, to rifts in Diablo III. It would not impact the gameplay at all but would save you two loading screens and a short journey from the nearest fast travel station to the dungeon itself.
It might seem insignificant but could save you hours eventually. Connected to that, we would also love for there to be the option to fast travel to your party member. It is in some fashion implemented, but you need to go back to the closest big town with a portal, and then go into another portal to teleport to your partner. It is unnecessary because you could just do it with the press of a button and save another double-loading screen. In addition, it will help to keep up with your friend if they have a much more mobile hero.
Player HUB
A straightforward way to save another couple of hours eventually is to add one player HUB. It would allow for even more interactions with other players, but being able to customize it would give it another level of depth. You could place every station you need next to each other, and not have to run from one end of the city to another. There could also be more cosmetics with microtransactions potential, and you could decorate your hideout. Instead of teleporting to the closest town, you would just teleport to your home/player HUB. Diablo IV could benefit from that addition.
Fix the Horses
Even though horses are a terrific addition to the game and seem to improve moving around the world, it is mostly an illusion due to the many problems the horses have. First of all, there are plenty of unnecessary barricades all over the Sanctuary that stop you from galloping toward your target, most of them should just simply be removed to make the gameplay smoother. Next are the horse’s cooldowns.
It is unfathomable to understand why the horse has a cooldown. When you get off, it goes on a 10-second cooldown and because of the barricades and many interactive climbs, you find yourself getting off the horse quite often, and that cooldown makes no sense. Also, the cooldown on its sprint ability with three charges does not help. Some simple fixes are to remove the cooldown and make the sprint mode a toggle with no charges and cooldown whatsoever.
Even though the game got some great reviews, these changes would make the game just be so much smoother. With all the seasons to come, we can expect some changes and here are just a few simple fixes that we came up with.
