Star Wars Detours hits a dead end

In what I like calling “a case of the Zuvio” (a topic for a future article), the much-hyped Star Wars Detours by Seth Green may never see the light of day.

Star Wars Detours was an animated comedy series created by George Lucas and executive produced by him, along with Robot Chicken’s co-creators, Seth Green and Matthew Senreich. While talking to ComicBook.com in February 2025, Seth Green explained why the once highly-anticipated show will likely never be released by Disney and Lucasfilm.

Green explained that while episodes were mostly finished, they would still need to be polished to reach modern streaming standards on Disney+. Unfortunately, he thinks that will never happen because he doesn’t believe that Disney will invest the money that would be required to do that.

“Detours itself, I think, would have to be edited, upgraded. You know what I mean? They’d have to do new work to make it possible to put it on streaming. And I just don’t think that they’re willing to commit the spend to update and release this when they can’t see a clear benefit.”

The series reportedly featured an impressive lineup of voice talent. Alongside Green, Star Wars veterans Anthony Daniels, Ahmed Best, Catherine Taber, and Dee Bradley Baker were attached. Also rumored were Donald Faison, Joel McHale, and even “Weird Al” Yankovic.

The hype machine certainly spun up more than a decade ago. A trailer was released. Shorts circulated online. Fans were curious. Then, after the Lucasfilm sale to Disney, the project quietly vanished into hyperspace.

While all indications point to a permanent shelving, this is Star Wars. We were once told the original theatrical cuts would never return. Darth Maul came back and is very much alive and thriving (excited much for the upcoming Maul: Shadow Lord?). And remember, somehow, Palpatine returned.

In the words of Luke Skywalker: no one is ever really gone.
