Which Star Wars Character Would Be The Ultimate Gambler?

Details on the next Star Wars movies are still light, with 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker wrapping up the third trilogy and receiving a mixed reception to say the least.

Fans welcomed the news that Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit) is set to direct the next Star Wars feature film, which he will be co-writing with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917).

Waititi has already been involved in the Star Wars universe as he directed the season finale episode of The Mandalorian, which was released on new streaming service Disney+.

But the lack of information about the next Star Wars films got us thinking. Which character from the Star Wars universe would be the ultimate gambler?

Lando Calrissian

The first name that comes to mind when you consider gambling in Star Wars is probably Lando Calrissian, who was played by Donald Glover in the origin movie Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Calrissian is certainly a risk-taker and he even lost control of the Millennium Falcon to Han in a bet over a game of Sabacc. That loss convinced Lando to go straight and he went on to become the Baron Administrator of Cloud City.

Played by Billy Dee Williams in The Rise of Skywalker and the original trilogy, Lando would probably not be much of a gambler these days. But perhaps he could be tempted again…

Yoda

Arguably the best Star Wars character ever created, Yoda has been around the block more than most – but would he be a gambler?

It seems likely that Yoda would be wise enough to leverage bonus offers which hold no risk and have only a potential upside.

This would give him a chance to try games without having to spend any of his own money.

Qui-Gon Jinn

Betting and gambling does not play a massive role in the Star Wars films, but it does crop up on occasion. One of the most famous examples of betting in Star Wars involved Qui-Gon Jinn.

First played by Liam Neeson in The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon Jinn finds Anakin Skywalker, who appears to be nothing more than a slave boy, when he is on Tatooine.

Qui-Gon Jinn soon realises Anakin has vast potential and enters a wager with the Toydarian Watto on the outcome of a podrace – the Boonta Eve Classic race. Anakin wins the race, releasing himself to Qui-Gon Jinn.

Although Qui-Gon Jinn was not seen gambling again, his judgment was shown to be extremely strong so he is a strong contender for the title of ultimate gambler in the Star Wars universe.

Han Solo

Like Lando, Han Solo has never been afraid to take risks which means he would likely be a handy gambler, as he showed in winning the Millennium Falcon.

However, Han has a habit of making rash decisions and indicates he could lose just as often as he wins. But his history suggests he could find his way out of the stickiest of situations.

While it was common knowledge that Han beat Lando in a bet for the Falcon, fans of the Star Wars series enjoyed seeing exactly what went down in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Citizens of Canto Bight

The biggest gamblers in the world of Star Wars probably live in the city of Canto Bight.

Shown off for the first time in The Last Jedi, the rich occupants of the city are shown gambling and generally having a whale of a time while Finn and Rose go on a vital mission.

That section of the movie was widely considered to be overlong and arguably even unnecessary but it did show how important gambling is in parts of the Star Wars universe.

Memorably, during their time in the casino, Snook Uccorfay mistook BB-8 for a lugjack slot machine and filled the droid up with coins as a result.

Finn

Rounding off our list of ultimate Star Wars gamblers is Finn, one of the most popular characters from the most recent trilogy.

Finn made a massive gamble right at the start of The Force Awakens, giving up life as a stormtrooper under Captain Phasma and Kylo Ren and eventually joining the resistance.

Played by British actor John Boyega, Finn has been shown to have a strong moral compass but like many Star Wars characters he has taken plenty of risks during his time.
