At Lucca Comics & Games 2022 we talked to Denise Gough, Dedra Meero in the new series set in the Star Wars universe, Andor.

Dedra Meero actress Denise Gough appeared at Lucca Comics and Games convention this past weekend, and at the show she delved into the character and her own relationship with Star Wars.

“Star Wars brings generations together, you can be 7 years old and talk to a 27-year-old and share experiences about Star Wars and talk about it for hours. Unlike my character I get very excited, so I feel very lucky to finally be here.

I’ve never been an avid Star Wars fan. I was more of a Batman type. Star Wars was never part of my world, which is that of theater, but then Andor came.

Denise looked deeper into the character of Meero.

“It’s really important to me that there are no factions outlined: it’s important that Dedra feels like the heroine of her story, and that’s why she’s scary. He is a fascist. He believes in something, but it is fascism. At first you have to root for her, you feel like you’re rooting for her, but then you realize that no matter how strong a woman she is in a world of men, you realize that she is just a fascist in a world of fascists.

Power corrodes everyone, men and women: she never apologizes, believes in everything she does and truly believes that she will save the galaxy, so she is credible and frightening. Cassian could also be a villain if you think about it, he kills both at the beginning of the series and the movie. He’s the villain of someone else’s story.

Whoever you are and however you identify yourself, there is both light and darkness in you. Although obviously in Dedra there is just a bit more darkness.”
