On the day the Maul – Shadow Lord arrives on Disney Plus (check out our Reaction Chat review on Fantha Tracks Radio here) Sam Witwer talks all things Maul with IGN, discussing the design of the show, it’s character-driven spine, Starkiller, giving his signature thought-provoking insight, and plenty more besides.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord sees the former Sith Lord rebuilding after his defeat on Mandalore in Season 7 of The Clone Wars. Maul voice actor Sam Witwer sits down with IGN’s Tom Jorgensen to explain how Maul – Shadow Lord’s unique, painterly art style and elements like physical brushstrokes and even some practical photography establish a visual identity for the series in keeping with the filmic look of the original trilogy. Witwer, who also played Starkiller in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, muses on which Star Wars video game character he’d like to see canonized and what he considers the best execution of Darth Maul in a video game before the conversation takes an unexpected turn up the mountainous road to the Overlook Hotel, as Sam and Tom discover a mutual love of Mike Flanagan’s director’s cut of Doctor Sleep that winds all the way back around to an exploration of the similarities between Maul and The Shining’s Jack Torrance.
