Natalie Portman reflects on the prequel backlash

While we’re very fortunate to have a thriving and – for the most part – friendly fandom, there are elements that are less than admirable. During the prequel era Natalie Portman was one of many actors who bore the brunt of that vitriol, and speaking with Empire magazine, Portman talked about this avoidable and regrettable experience.

“It was a bummer because it felt like people were so excited about new ones and then to have people feel disappointed. Also to be at an age that I didn’t really understand that’s kind of the nature of the beast. When something has that much anticipation it can almost only disappoint.”

Thankfully, Natalie is also aware that the middle trilogy are now held in far higher regard than they were at the time.

“There’s a very avid group of people who think they’re the best ones now! I don’t have enough perspective to weigh in.”
