With the second and final season of Andor only two weeks away (and the Fantha Tracks team ready to dive into our weekly group reviews, episodes of Making Tracks Reaction Chat and Good Morning Tatooine) the latest issue of Empire Magazine brings a deep dive interview with showrunner Tony Gilroy and star and executive producer Diego Luna, and speaking with the magazine Gilroy explained how the production was protected from all sides by Lucasfilm, Bob Iger, Kathleen Kennedy and the fandom.
Gilroy is clear that a show like Andor “will never happen again”.
“Not because we’re so great, but because no-one’s ever gonna start a show on this scale again, and shoot it practically, and have the resources and the protection to do something like this.
We were protected all the way down the line. Kathy [Kennedy] protected us. Lucasfilm protected us. Bob Iger protected us. The audience protected us. The Mandalorian protected us. We had all these people out there backing our play.”
