WOOKIEEPEDIA page

Mark’s Star Wars journey started at the ABC cinema in Cannock, Staffordshire Easter 1978 and through weekly and monthly Marvel UK Comics, Buena Vista Read-Along-Adventures and Palitoy action figures he’s continued on the Jedi path for over 47 years.

FAN FICTION AND AUDIO DRAMAS

In 1981, an uncompleted script for a Star Wars fan film with school friends was started, and by May 1982 he wrote his first Star Wars fiction, Quest For Freedom.

The first of a trilogy, the second draft of Quest introduced the free trader Jan Lomona and was followed by The Lydon Legacy in May 1983 and The Search Continues in May 1984. Those three stories helped spawn the creation – alongside Jonathan Hicks – of the Setnin sector, through 20 audio stories recorded between 1986 and 1988, countless weekly D6 West End Games RPG sessions between 1987 – 1994 and short stories, novellas and novels.

The audio dramas preceeded a rich era of fan fiction writing as together Mark, Jonathan, Paul and Louis wrote 266 stories set in the Sedapard Cluster. Fourteen of Marks original stories were compiled into a self-published 2014 collection, Tales From The Setnin Sector, with a cover designed by official Star Wars artist Paul Bateman. An expanded and updated edition featuring fifteen stories (the first new Setnin sector fiction for over a decade) wrapped in a new cover will be self-published in 2025, while lightsabre.co.uk will be redesigned and updated as the permanent home of all Setnin sector fiction, as originally envisaged back in 1998 when Wirezone launched.

In June 2025, the Sedapard Cluster was added to the official Star Wars galaxy map, listed on page 45 of the Star Systems of the Galaxy PDF and while not visible on the map can be found 3000 parsecs above grid location O16. Erroneously listed as a star system rather than a globular cluster, the Sedapard Cluster is now an official location in the canonical Star Wars galaxy.

Mark and Louis launched general sci-fi site Wirezone in August 1998, the first to host original Setnin sector fiction beginning with the 1998 novel Jan Lomona and the Sirens of Amagad.

LIGHTSABRE.CO.UK (1999 – 2009)

On Monday 28th June 1999 Wirezone changed name and URL to lightsabre.co.uk, ahead of the UK release of The Phantom Menace on Friday 16th July 1999.

Writing alongside Louis, Jonathan, Paul Squire and with art by Jason Brown, the early days of Lightsabre were focused on original fan fiction and crafting a home for the stories, RPG guides and audio dramas written up to that point.

Sunday 14th July 2000 saw the publication of the first Lightsabre Interview with author Kevin J. Anderson and over the next decade he conducted well over 140 interviews while continuing to oversee the compilation and development of the fictional setting of the Setnin sector. Guests included Irvin Kershner, Rick McCallum, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Robert Watts and Peter Mayhew.

RELAUNCH

Friday 4th March 2005 saw the relaunch of Lightsabre after a 6 month hiatus to redesign and reposition Lightsabre as a news and interviews site, and later that year saw the launch of the Setnin Radio podcast. Between 5th October 2005 and 20th December 2006 17 episodes were released, making it one of the earliest Star Wars podcasts and Mark one of the longest serving podcasters in Star Wars fandom.

Regular features on Lightsabre included Setnin Select, a weekly series of images that ran for 352 consecutive weeks and to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the writing of Quest For Freedom in May 2007, a comic version written by Mark with interior art by UK artist Richard Skidmore and covers by Australian artist Craig Burt (issues 1 – 3) and Robert Shane (issue 4).

A conservative estimate would have Lightsabre.co.uk posting close to 2,000 entries over it’s decade long run, ending on 7th July 2009 with over a million page views that year.

From 2008 – 2009 Lightsabre.co.uk contained a subsite that focused on the worlds greatest archaeologist, looking at the books, comics, computer games, scripts, soundtracks and collectibles of Indiana Jones around the time of the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Mark initially joined Jedi News while a new version of Lightsabre – Lightsabre.org – was being designed (during this time he also contributed to Coffee With Kenobi and acted as UK Correspondent for Dark Empire Radio and Teekay-421 magazine). When that redesign never materialised he began contributing to JediNews.co.uk, with his first act as a member of Jedi News being an appearance on Dark Empire Radio Episode 23 on Friday 3rd September 2010. He began contributing posts to the site on Thursday 10th March 2011, quickly becoming the site’s daily content manager.

The debut episode of RADIO 1138 arrived on Thursday 31st October 2013, part of Jimmy “Mac” McInerney and Jason Swanks Shotglass Digital alongside fellow Star Wars shows Rebel Force Radio, Star Wars Influences, Star Wars Oxygen, Star Wars Collectors Cast, Fangirls Going Rogue and Skywalking Through Neverland.
