He may not have been at Star Wars Celebration Japan to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Force Awakens, but he’s certainly busy on the convention circuit. This coming weekend he’ll be at Comic Con Brussels alongside fellow TFA star Brian Herring, and on 12th April he was at C2E2 where he discussed his illustrious career and of course, Star Wars.
Star Wars star John Boyega gave a panel at C2E2 2025 to talk about the films, his experiences, and to answer fan questions.
John Boyega played Finn in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Last Skywalker, and also voice the character in Star Wars: Battlefront II, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, among others. He is also known for Attack the Block, Watership Down, They Cloned Tyrone, Pacific Rim: Uprising, The Woman King, and more.
This panel was recorded on April 12th, 2025, in Chicago, IL.
Collider covered the event, and a fascinating reveal of what Finn was going to say to Rey when they were caught in the sinking fields of Pasaana.
Speaking at the “John Boyega: The Force of Talent” panel at C2E2 2025, the actor revealed that Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker nearly took a different direction with his character, specifically in the scene where he, Rey (Daisy Ridley), and the rest are trapped in quicksand. They filmed an alternate version of the scene where Finn yelled out, “I’m a Jedi,” rather than leaving his secret unshared. This would have propelled him into a much clearer story, establishing another Jedi in a world with too few of them. While the film ultimately went with a less definitive choice, Finn’s character arc suffered for it, but the idea of Finn being Force-sensitive wasn’t removed completely. Though this storyline is underdeveloped, it is set up in a way that could, theoretically, be continued down the line, giving closure to Finn’s story.
You may know actor John Boyega from the numerous iconic films he has been a part of: Star Wars, Attack the Block, They Cloned Tyrone, The Woman King. But what is he going to do next?
