With a variety of different offerings on international platforms it’s not clear as yet which services this will affect, but with Disney looking to change up their approach to streaming and content creation this may herald a number of future changes, specifically a focus on physical formats, something that in recent years has seen a decline as online streaming has taken precidence.

Decades ago, Disney would re-release their classics on the big screen and then on home video for a limited time, pulling them for seven years and placing them into the Disney Vault until they were released again, and you can watch a look into the history of home video and Disney’s part in it in this episode from Yesterworld Entertainment. Be mindful, the video is from their own point of view – the key information is the dates, timings and history of Disney’s entry and role in the home video market.

Here’s what Disney CFO Christine McCarthy revealed regarding streaming and potential content removal.

Whether this includes Star Wars content leaving Disney Plus, or MCU entries is currently unknown and this move may not impact upon our current viewing experience. Alternatively it may herald a Limited Run Games-style range of high-quality box sets with extras, deleted scenes and more, but there’s certainly something big on the horizon. This is a topic that we touched upon in the latest episode of Making Tracks which landed last night.
