Season one of The Mandalorian ended yesterday – our review of the episode will be live on the site within the next few days – and the breakout star of the series is undoubtedly The Child. It’s impact on the zeitgeist has been immense, partially because of how its been introduced and it appears that Donald Glover – Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story and the voice of Simba in The Lion King – shared a conversation with his director and Solo co-star Jon Favreau about the impact of surprise.

“We were talking about music and pop culture and he was saying that what people really like now is to be surprised, because it doesn’t happen that much. When Beyoncé did an album, she would just put it online and everybody would react to it. Just putting it out there spurred a conversation that would become more viral and bring more genuine attention than any marketing.”

The character is well and truly out there, even three months ahead of its UK release, and products featuring The Child are now live at Forbidden PlanetZavviComics and Cocktails and Star Action Figures.
