Get ready for a relatively dry cinematic and televisual year in 2024 as projects lined up for late 2023 and early ’24 slide back further and further as the actors and writers strikes continue. One of the casualties of that is Donald Glover and Maya Erskine’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which has been delayed until 2024, back from it’s planned November 2023 arrival on Amazon Prime.

Donald Glover and Maya Erskine’s mission as married assassins in Mr. & Mrs. Smith has been delayed.

Prime Video announced Thursday that the upcoming TV show reimagining of the 2005 movie, originally slated to premiere in November, will now debut in “early 2024.”

Co-created and executive produced by Glover (Atlanta) and Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo), Mr. & Mrs. Smith stars Glover as John Smith and Pen15co-creator/star Erskine as Jane Smith. While the premise of the series is based on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s 2005 film of the same name, there are actually quite a few key differences in the new story.

While the movie centered on two married assassins who are hired to kill each other after they discover they’re spies for rival agencies, in the upcoming Prime Video series, John and Jane are two strangers who give up their identities to be thrown together as partners in espionage and marriage. According to the show’s official logline, they’ve been matched by a mysterious agency, and each episode follows them on a new mission and new milestone in their relationship. When the cracks begin to show through, they must fight to stay together. Because in this marriage, divorce is not an option.

Remember, the series was set to reunite Lando and L3-37, as Phoebe Waller-Bridge was originally the lead of the show before leaving due to creative differences. Who knows, maybe they’ll have the chance to spar in some flashback scenes when the big screen version of what was originally set to be a Disney Plus Lando series arrives.
