Many platforms looked at virtual ways of connecting during the pandemic, and Ashley Eckstein’s media presence was a space often devoted to connectivity with her fan base and using her platform to focus on mental health topics and self-care. She brought some of that positivity and light to the first in-person Her Universe Fashion Show since 2019, the theme of returning home with her special co-host for the show Nina, who Ashley has developed a friendship with.
The moment I lined up with fans for the show you could feel the excitement in the room. Entering the room to the music set of DJ Amanda Jones, I felt another wave of nostalgia; Amanda has been with Ashley since the first Her Universe Fashion Show back in 2014.
The theme of the night was Coming Home, an inspiration of Ashley’s from the Wizard of OZ. Nina and Ashley took this theme and elevated it to couture levels! The show had twenty-six designers, crossing various fandoms and creative designs. Nina and Ashley have such a lovely chemistry together, there was lots of laughter and joy – it felt like home!
Cindy Guillermo Heselton won the Judge’s Choice for her design “Caged” inspired by Disney Pixar’s “Turning Red”.
Michael Burson, wearing his design “Doctor Strange Hellfire Gala,” inspired by Doctor Strange won the Audience favorite Award.
Both Cindy and Michael will participate in creating an official Her Universe Fashion line inspired by Disney’s “The Marvels.” in 2023.
