As an armchair follower of box office figures since the 80’s when Lucas and Spielberg ruled all, the figures being posted by Avengers: Endgame are truly incredible. In just 10 days on release – in pure numbers only – the 22nd entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has passed every film ever released, ever, to find itself sitting in the number 2 position behind Avatar as the highest grossing film in history.
Now only the fifth film to breach the $2 billion barrier, these figures put into come kind of perspective the insane trajectory the film is on right now.

Box Office Mojo summarised just how enormous a second weekend the film has had.
With an estimated $145.8 million, Avengers: Endgame came up just a bit shy of the record $149.2 million second weekend for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but this may be an example of Disney being just a bit cautious. Tomorrow may reveal the film was able to top the record mark set by Force Awakens once weekend actuals are released, but even without that record Endgame has now grossed nearly $620 million at the domestic box office, already ranking as the ninth largest domestic release of all-time after just ten days in theaters. Just how high it will climb remains difficult to nail down, but a domestic gross topping $900 million seems like an extreme possibility.
Internationally, Endgame added over $282 million for an overseas cume that now stands at $1.569 billion and a global total reaching $2.188 billion, making it the second largest global release of all-time, trailing Avatar by $600 million. As for that total, Endgame topped $2 billion worldwide in its eleventh day of release, a total Avatar reached after 47 days.
Endgame’s top international market remains China where the film has now grossed over $575 million followed by the UK ($89.9m), Korea ($82.1m), Mexico ($61.6m), Brazil ($56.3m), India ($51.8m), Germany ($47.4m), Australia ($46.2m), France ($43.1m), Japan ($34.4m), Indonesia ($30.9m), Italy ($29.0m), Philippines ($28.7m), Spain ($24.9m), Hong Kong ($23.1m), Taiwan ($22.5m) and Thailand ($22.5m). Not included in those numbers is the film’s $32.6 million seven day opening in Russia where it began playing on Monday and has already become the sixth largest release in the market of all-time.
In the States, Titanic holds the record for the most consecutive weekends at number one with 16, on its way to $659,363,944. In 10 days, or two weekends at number one, Endgame has already taken $621,277,849, surpassing The Last Jedi which ended on $620,181,382 and just behind Avengers Assemble on $623,357,910. Almost certainly, this coming week will see it reach as high as the lifetime total of Avengers: Infinity War on $678,815,482, putting it fourth behind Black Panther on $700,059,566. That only leaves Avatar on $760,507,625 and The Force Awakens on $936,662,225.
To show how hot and fast Endgame is raking in its money, the 10-Day total for The Force Awakens was $540,058,914. The 10-Day total for Endgame is $621,277,849, meaning that $936m target is well within reach and a domestic take of over $1bn a distinct possibility for Endgame.
Worldwide there is just $594,224,128 to go until Endgame passes Avatar, putting the 4th Avengers film well on target to be the first film to break the $3 billion barrier, a target many believed no film would ever pass.
Even the domestic inflation adjusted chart – a nebulous comparison at best given the variety of moving factors – sees Endgame at 42, ahead of Home Alone on $610,285,100 and just behind Independence Day on $624,112,600. The current number 12 is 101 Dalmations on $900,254,400 with The Force Awakens on an adjusted figure of $974,117,000.
By way of comparison, A New Hope‘s combined box office total of $$460,998,007 now scales up to $1,604,857,600, behind only Gone With The Wind, released 80 years ago on $1,822,598,200.
