He might not be a name that instantly comes to mind when thinking about Star Wars, but Oscar winning director Guillermo del Toro has more of a connection than you might think. Formerly connected to a Hutt-related project, he brought that knowledge and interest to The Mandalorian and Grogu, as director Jon Favreau explains.
In a roundtable discussion with the team behind The Mandalorian and Grogu (reported by Vandal), director Jon Favreau spoke about director/writer Guillermo del Toro’s involvement with the movie. Noting that he “spent a lot of time” with del Toro, Favreau reflected on showing him cuts of the movie and 3D models of the Hutts at his house.
According to Favreau, del Toro made suggestions about the Hutts and found a connection and personal interest in them, having wanted to tell a story “about Jabba’s origin.” He was especially drawn to the idea of a fitter and more physically powerful Hutt, which is being brought to life through Jeremy Allen White’s Rotta the Hutt.
