John Boyega on a trip to the MCU: “That’s not in the vision for me now”

After his box office busting appearances in the sequel trilogy, and with the amount of fellow performers from the Star Wars galaxy such as Oscar Isaac, Emilia Clark and Alden Ehrenreich hopping across into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be no surprise whatsoever to hear that John Boyega was taking a juicy role in the MCU, bringing all his vim and vigour to a role which would no doubt be incredibly high-profile. However, it seems that Boyega is far from interested in such a role, opting to focus his talents on more serious faire.

“That’s not in the vision for me now. I want to do nuanced things…I want to donate my services to original indie films that come with new, fresh ideas, because I know it’s real hard to top ‘Iron Man’ in that universe.”

Given that choice, and his recent much-deserved win at the Golden Globes, perhaps a return to the Star Wars galaxy is less of a possibility. In the meantime, Boyega’s Sundance thriller Breaking opens 26th August, and he stars alongside Viola Davis in the warrior epic The Woman King out 16th September.
