It might initially read like a slight on the saga, but if you read it again, it really isn’t. Speaking last weekend at New York Comic Con, Laurence Fishburne asked the audience what they thought of him playing Professor Xavier in the X-Men reboot directed by Skeleton Crew and Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier (despite already having played Dr. Bill Foster in Marvel’s Ant-Man franchise), and was then asked whether he’d ever consider joining the galaxy far, far away, to which he quickly gave a reply.
During the NYCC panel, it was suggested Fishburne could also have potential in the Star Wars universe, the actor swiftly said, “No, I’m good.”
“I’m watching everything. I’m watching every Star Wars, I’m in the middle of Rebels now, man,” he added. “I’m good on the couch with Star Wars. I don’t need a lightsaber. I don’t — pew pew! — I don’t need it.”
It seems Fishburne is quite happy being a fan of the saga rather than an active member, which means the adventures and stories he’s consuming are satisfying enough to scratch his GFFA itch.
Then again, in the spirit of Liam Neeson, don’t be remotely surprised if Fishburne is announced for an upcoming saga entry….
