The Swedish national broadcasting company SVT has worked on a documentary series about the whole of Swedish history. The production has been going on for three years and it will premiere this autumn. To give sound to the Swedish history they went to Ludwig Göransson and Per Gunnar Juliusson. “It’s a rhythm, a kind of groove and a certain kind of melancholy that we have tried to encapsulate. That feeling is very Swedish to us”, says Göransson.
The composer of The Mandalorian, where some of the score definitely felt inspired by his Swedish background, has created a theme that has just been recorded by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and is inspired by “slängpolska” which is a special Swedish folk dance and also a name for the music that is played for that kind of dance. “Folk music is usually played on a few fiddles, and that gives it character, but with access to the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra we wanted to max it out”, says Per Gunnar Juliusson.
One of the historians who participated in the production and was present for the press release says that the music sounded “nice and like a really epic folk music tune”.
