The Rise of Skywalker hits theatres 19th December 2019 and will once again star Mark Hamill in what could be his final appearance as the former Tatooine farm boy turned Jedi Master. Speaking to AP News he explained how he feels about Star Wars and his signature role.

Q: Is this really going to be your last Star Wars appearance?

MH: I sure hope so. (laughs)

Q: Why?

MH: Well, because…I had closure in the last one. The fact that I’m involved in any capacity is only because of that peculiar aspect of the Star Wars mythology where if you’re a Jedi, you get to come back and make a curtain call as a Force ghost.

It’s difficult to imagine Hamill – a huge fan favourite at Celebration and conventions worldwide – not lending his vocal talents to Luke in future animated shows, but we have to prepare for the thought that The Rise of Skywalker will be his very final appearance as Luke.
