Mark Hamill: Star Wars films – ‘They’re coming in too fast!’

Over the course of 28 years we were treated to a brace of Star Wars trilogies, each episode arriving every three years with the two trio’s 16 years apart. That has dramatically changed in modern times, with the fourth Disney era film Solo: A Star Wars Story arriving in just 51 days time, hot on the heels of The Last Jedi. Great for fans who know no different, but even Mark Hamill, speaking recently to CinemaBlend‘s Eric Eisenberg, has questions over the faster pace of releases.

I will say they should pace themselves, because you don’t want to over-saturate it. I said to Disney, ‘Really? Five months after we come out comes [Solo: A Star Wars Story]? Can’t you at least wait until Christmas?’ But they’ve got things booked – they’re doing Marvel and their own movies, so that’s beyond my [purview.]

As the great man says, Disney priorities clearly take precedence over Lucasfilm concerns. Solo needs to tie in with the release pattern of Avengers: Infinity War as well as Pixar films and Disney’s live action and animated output. Star Wars arriving in town every three years is a thing of the past as it settles into the familiar pattern of a modern franchise.
