CBS 8 San Diego hurl us into the boot of their DeLorean and take us back to the 80’s where we get a long-lost look at CBS footage of the construction of Jabba’s sail barge from Return of the Jedi, a location at the time that was heavily guarded, much to the consternation of the locals. Also, a look at an unfortunate error that saw a screening of Jedi missing an entire reel.

We bring you an exciting discovery we recently made in our news 8 archives… from 1982. A group of ATV riders in the desert near Yuma stumbled on something truly “out of this world.” What looked like a spaceship was Jabba the Hut’s barge… and part of the set for “Return of the Jedi!” Jesse Macias shows us what happened when a News 8 crew went out to investigate. (Note-Jesse refers to the film as Revenge of the Jedi -that was the original title). And Lorraine Kimel takes us back to 1983… when a premiere screening of the movie at Pacific Sweetwater 6 Theater in National City didn’t quite go according to plan.
