There’s a new Star Wars trilogy in town, and it’s not episodes 10, 11 and 12. Producer Simon Kinberg, who helped launch the much-loved Star Wars Rebels with Dave Filoni and was a consultant on The Force Awakens is returning to the galaxy far, far away with a new trilogy that he will write and produce, a return to a familiar and proven talent who helped launch the Disney era of Star Wars to such creative and critical effect. While it’s unknown when this trilogy will be set or what it’s about, Kinberg is a proven franchise player which hopefully points towards exciting (and stable) times for the saga.

Lucasfilm has closed a deal with Simon Kinberg to develop a trilogy of Star Wars films. Kinberg will write the trio and produce them with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy.
Kinberg previously worked with Lucasfilm in co-creating with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck the Emmy-nominated animated series Star Wars Rebels that ran for four seasons from 2014-2018. He was also a consultant on Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, the J.J. Abrams-directed film that revived the franchise in 2015.
A new trilogy as we roll towards the 50th anniversary to go alongside the existing slate of prohects from Jon favreau, James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Dave Filoni and a topic we’ll be diving into on episode 209 of Making Tracks which will land midweek.
