Here are the characters we’ve grown to know over the last few years, and what they may be up to by the time the new Dave Filoni-directed movie comes out.
Doctor Aphra: The End? AKA A spoilery-type review!
I’ve always really enjoyed the Doctor Aphra character. I mean, there she is in the same universe as Qui-Gon Jinn, Han Solo and Ahsoka! I was afraid they were going to kill off such a unique and popular character, but I didn’t need to worry. The first few pages of the book were silent, just panels until we get on-planet, then Aphra starts talking about what’s been going on with her and her journey. Domina Tagge and Sana Starros talking about Aphra’s sacrifice. Cool Scourge flash-backs with swords and lightsabers. Aphra explores another Jedi temple while Sana and Magna talk. These temples are everywhere!
And…Aphra finds a book. An ancient Jedi text! I wonder if it ends up in Luke Skywalker’s magic burning tree! Aphra finally gets it: stealing stuff and getting away with isn’t any fun without anybody else around (in the beginning of her comic journey, Aphra was purely in it for herself). Aphra leaves the abandoned temple and sends out a message to Sana and when she arrives, yells at her for making her a better person. Now it’s the three of them together: Aphra, Starros and Tolvan (which would make a great comic book title). We then meet up with the bounty hunter Raslin Grace (from Revelations) and she takes up Aphra’s Imperial bounty. Yet another enemy force attacks her and ALL her friends back her up. It says on the last page “Doctor Aphra will return” so I’m going to take them at their word. So now Aphra is running with two of her former girlfriends on adventures. Are they are thruple? Did Magna Tolvan quit the Rebellion? Does Aphra sell\give the book to Luke? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Also this ad for “Star Wars Aphra Bounty Hunter #1” was sadly a typo. No such book exists, but it could…
Vintage Star Wars figures: I’m not a big action figure collector, just one every once in a while. Hasbro recently did their new figure line for the year and as usual, asked people what they wanted. Mostly it’s a different variation of Clone Troopers. I wouldn’t mind seeing the sick creations of the Scourge (combos of flesh and droid) end up on the Hasbro drawing table. I still want to see Genndy Tartakovsky-Clone Wars animated style action figures for all of our heroes and villains.
Also, in Karen Traviss’ Republic Commando series, Mandos with Traumatic Brain Injuries get their armor branded with a sigil on it. It’s a sign of honor and respect in that warrior culture. Pound out a bunch of Mandalorian helmets with that sigil on it, it would definitely be an unusual addition to a collection. Imagine getting a bunch of action figure-sized Mandalorian removable helmets, customizing them and putting that out on Ebay!
I have a TBI and there’s a Mando’a sigil for brain injury awareness, so I got it as a tattoo

Still waiting for this to happen in live action (even with the awesome painted gunship), complete with hand signals.
Ahmed Best sent out this Instagram post, referencing his last appearance as Kelleran Beq on The Mandalorian. He’s asking about the Naboo ship that picked up him and li’l baby Yoda. I guess this will be an ongoing storyline throughout a few episodes (hopefully). It probably isn’t Padme, since at this time she’s in her apartment. How would she even know about Grogu? It’s a Jedi thing, and her husband is out slaughtering them. Grogu seems to be very important if they were hiding and helping him out through these tumultuous times. Those were Naboo troopers and a Naboo Royal ship so it would have to be somebody very important. I hope it’s not Jar Jar, since we also know where he ends up and I don’t see him as being that competent or involved in Jedi internal affairs. The Amidalians were in a recent Darth Vader comic storyline, with the Handmaidens acting almost like a Rebel cell. Maybe a guest appearance by Keira Knightley or Rose Byrne? That would be super cool….
As to where they’re taking him, we know the Jedi (or whomever) eventually failed in their task since Grogu was at some kind of mercenary base when the Mandalorian originally found him. Either way, it doesn’t end well for Kelleran Beq. He’s also posted some image of him in a Jar Jar Binks-esque mo-cap suit with an Activision hashtag.
Samuel L. Jackson would love to come back as Mace Windu and claims he’s not really dead. I know there was some fan-made animated series and fan speculation, but nothing definitive said he survived Palpatine’s lightning attack. I personally believe he died; he was Anakin’s first real kill as a Sith and it just fits the story better.
But how about a non-canon comic? Mace is flung into busy Coruscant, bounces off a speeder and into a alleyway full of garbage. His purple-bladed lightsaber flies back into his remaining hand. He looks to a back-alley cyberneticist and gets a new arm. Then he goes after Palpatine…
Eye of Darkness by George Mann is incredible. Porter Engle, Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann all fight in their own way on either side of the Occlusion Zone, The Nihil with Marchion Ro and his Nameless creatures. Awesome. Didn’t know what was going to happen next. Political intrigue from both the Nihil and Republic, action, this one has it all. I was holding my breath the last several chapters. Can’t wait for the next entry!
