Speaking with Empire Magazine about the second season of Andor: A Star Wars Story, which arrives on Disney Plus on 22nd April 2025, showrunner Tony Gilroy made an interesting comment about the debut season which, while delighting a large percentage of the fandom didn’t necessarily transfer that excellence into eyes on the product from fans outside of the fanbase (and by fanbase we mean the broader television or cinematic viewer who would go to see or watch a Star Wars project but not buy the toys or go to a convention).
“I was surprised [‘Andor’ season 1] hasn’t translated exactly into widening the audience for people who are ‘Star Wars’-averse. That, it hasn’t done. That’s our goal this time.”
As the second season steers us towards the battles of Scarif and Yavin, as the Rebellion builds and coalesces into a unit prepared and capable of not only bloodying the Empire’s nose but taking out its biggest weapon, expect plenty of action and intrigue that – if marketed properly – should catch the eye of the casual viewer who are familiar with X-Wings, TIE Fighters, Death Stars and Star Destroyers (not to mention Director Krennic and the possibility of seeing Lord Vader, the Emperor and maybe Grand Moff Tarkin). We’ll be chatting about this and much more on the 210th episode of Making Tracks, out this coming Tuesday.
