Unbelievably it’s been two years since Carl Weathers, the actor behind Greef Karga in The Mandalorian, passed away. He was 76 and left behind a body of work that included such smash hits as the Oscar winning Rocky series, Predator, Happy Gilmore, Action Jackson and many more besides.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement. “He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

As it shall every year, he comes to mind on this anniversary, but especially this year with the arrival in a few short months of The Mandalorian and Grogu, a film that would surely have included Karga and Weathers compelling performance as the bounty hunters guild leader turned High Magistrate.
