In a disappointing move, reminiscent of Kenny Baker being snubbed at the 2017 Oscars, Gary Kurtz – them man behind three of the highest grossing films of all time in American Graffiti, Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back – was ignored during the In Memoriam segment of the Oscars.
Unbelievable, that a man who gave so much to pop culture by way of his quiet contributions to the saga should be left off the list. He’ll certainly never be forgotten in these parts.
Every year, during the in memoriam section at the Oscars, Hollywood celebrates the talent that has died over the last year and every year there are some glaring omissions.
Gary Kurtz, the producer of best picture nominees American Graffiti and Star Wars as well as blockbusters like The Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Crystal and Return to Oz was another notable omission. Kurtz died of cancer in September at the age of 78.
