In a recent interview with KUSC.org, John Williams has made it clear that he intends to step away from the GFFA after the completion of the final chapter of the prequel trilogy.
Understandable, given his age and the resolution of this trilogy of trilogy’s. Williams discusses the latest series of films, and his intention to wrap it up after Episode 9.
“We know J.J. Abrams is preparing one now that I will hopefully do next year for him. I look forward it. It will round out a series of nine, that will be quite enough for me.”
Of course, the main theme for Solo: A Star Wars Story is being composed by Williams, and his score for The Last Jedi is up for an Academy Award this coming Sunday, his 51st nomination, only 8 behind Walt Disney, and – if he wins – his 6th Oscar.
Whether he does ride off into the sunset with this film or not, his music will be as much a constant in the ongoing Star Wars story as Ralph McQuarrie’s designs.
