Lucasfilm have lifted the lid on their long promised literature series, code named Project Luminous. The series will be a cross-platform publication series called “The High Republic.”
Project Luminous was conceived as a way to to fuel fandom as publishing did between Episodes IV and I, and did again between Episodes III and Ep VII. From the idea of Project Luminous, came the concept of ‘The High Republic.’ An era set 200 years before The Skywalker Saga.
The goal of the project as described by Tonya Agurto, the Senior Vice President, Global Publisher, of Disney Publishing is a “…hope that Project Luminous will bring in a new generation of fans, but also appeal to those who have spent their lives following A Galaxy Far, Far Away.”
The project started with the question from Kathleen Kennedy, “What scares the Jedi?” and the quote “For over a thousand generations the Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice” to help define the era.
The publishing programme will feature releases by Disney Lucasfilm Press, Del Rey, Marvel, IDW, Viz, Titan, Insight Editions, Abrams, b&m! books, and DK. But “phase one” will focus on Disney Lucasfilm Press, Del Rey, Marvel and IDW releases.
The publishing programme begins on 25th August 2020 with Charles Soule’s Del Rey novel, Light of the Jedi.
