German luxury art book publisher Taschen—already a favourite among collectors for Paul Duncan’s definitive The Star Wars Archives: Episodes I-III and Episodes IV-VI – have announced its next premium release: Star Wars Comics Library: Vol. 1. 1977-1979. The upcoming volume will mirror the oversized format and high-end design of Taschen’s previous Marvel Comics collaborations, offering a museum-quality archival look at the franchise’s early years. Scheduled for publication on July 29, 2026, the book is priced at $200 USD (or €175).

The collection serves as a time capsule for the era when the galaxy far, far away first expanded beyond the silver screen. As the publisher describes:

“After Star Wars was released in 1977 and became a global cinematic phenomenon, fans clamored for more adventures with Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa and Darth Vader. Marvel’s Star Wars comic was their only source for new stories and became a bestseller. The first 23 issues, including an adaptation of the film, are collected in this volume.”

Standing nearly 40 cm tall, this 680-page English-language edition will provide fans with an unprecedented way to experience the original 23 issues that kept the saga alive in the late 1970s.
