Mark Hamill makes a guest appearance at the Visual Effects Awards

The 16th annual Visual Effects Awards took place in Los Angeles, the awards recognise outstanding visual effects, artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials, video games and special venues.

The big winners of the evening were as follows:

The TV series Game of Thrones with 5 wins

War for Planet of the Apes with 4 wins

Disney’s animated film Coco also with 4 wins

ILMxLAB with the VOID was nominated for an award for Star Wars​: Secrets of the Empire in the category for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project awards. They were beaten by Avatar: Flight of Passage, a 3D flying adventure through Avarar at Disney World Animal Kingdom.

Mark Hamill was invited as a guest presenter at the event and he presented the final award.

“best picture” equivalent awards, saying that he was always fascinated with visual effects, especially the ones that let him wield a lightsaber and use the force in Star Wars.”
