Jake at From 4-LOM to Zuckuss.com, via our friends at Yakface, draws our attention to the news that StarWars.com have removed links to fan run sites and podcasts.

In their place now sits this notice.

StarWars.com are currently focused on building their own library of articles looking at the Star Wars community, with listicles, food recipes, advertising articles and a heavy focus on US based fans and collectors being their prevalent source of content, along with interviews conducted by the core StarWars.com team.

Fan sites and podcasts have been represented on the site for many years, so their removal – and the friendly nod of approval from San Francisco their presence on the official site inferred – appears to show a change of direction from Lucasfilm and Disney.

What that change means for fan sites around the world and what it could potentially lead to is unclear at this point.
