We met Star Wars: Hunters in February during the Nintendo Direct event as a game for the Nintendo Switch, but it’s also coming for Android and iOS. This week we had the Apple event which gave us an unexpected first glimpse into the gameplay of the game. We also had a new movie trailer about the game, but the gameplay is what gets the most attention.

But let’s start with the trailer, which portrays a chaotic dispute between a Sith warrior, a bounty hunter, a Wookiee, a robotic Jedi and Jawas among others. These hunters compete in team battles inside the Arena, located on the planet Vespaara. What little we know about these hunters comes from leaks that have already appeared on Reddit, and we already know that the game’s narrative takes place after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi and before The Force Awakens.

Cool, so we had a new trailer, but then comes the Apple event over the past week that offered us a brief look at the actual gameplay. The short video, which you can watch in the tweet embedded below, shows a character wielding a red lightsaber engaged in third-person hand-to-hand combat, with that over-the-shoulder view that we already know well. This avatar cuts down on the Wookiee opponent (probably another human player), including throwing his lightsaber. It definitely seems to fit the model of free arena games we have nowadays, but we still don’t have any details in terms of modes and progression.

Star Wars: Hunters is being developed by Zynga and does not yet have a release date, but appears to be slated for release in 2022, after it was originally announced this year. Now we can wait for new news.
