Tony Gilroy on introducing K-2SO in Andor: A Star Wars Story: “I definitely have to deliver”

With season one of Andor delivering one of the most sumptuous, satisfying GFFA experiences in the near half-century long life of the saga so far (over 50 years if you take into account the numerous drafts George Lucas toiled on before Alan Ladd Jr and 20th Century Fox took a shot on Luke Starkiller and The Star Wars) one of the few points of contention was the non-appearance of K-2SO. A KX security droid arresting Cassian on Niamos briefly raised hopes, but Tony Gilroy and his team opted to hold the real thing back for season 2, and speaking with Collider he discussed the pressure that comes with showing a meeting that fans have wanted to see since 2018 when Andor was first announced.

“Yeah, man, the bar is high. No, I knew it. Just by delaying it off the first season, the controversy of that. Nobody was happy about that. I don’t think Disney was happy about that, I don’t think the fans were happy about that. But there was a reason for it, a really, really good reason for it. But it does mean that I definitely have to deliver on the meet-cute, so we’ll see how it goes. We’re happy with what we have.”

We’ve got a busy few days ahead on Fantha Tracks Radio with new episodes of Canon Fodder and Making Tracks landing over the weekend, along with Sunday’s LIVE episode of Good Morning Tatooine with Brian Cameron and Paul Naylor which will delve into the latest Andor news.
