Star Wars Insider #199

Fiction is back! Star War Insider #199 features the first in an ongoing series of Star Wars: The High Republic stories, exclusive to the magazine! The first is by acclaimed Star Wars author Charles Soule – a prequel to his Star Wars: The High Republic novel!

And that’s not all!

Actor Ahmed Best reveals how he made the move from Jar Jar Binks to Jedi Master for Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge.

We go behind the scenes at ILMxLAB to discover how the award-winning VR experience Vader Immortal was made.

The five authors behind Star Wars: The High Republic talk about the ambitious new Lucasfilm Publishing project.

U.S. on sale date: 15th December 2020
U.K. on sale date: 14th January 2021

2020 might have ended, but that doesn’t mean the galaxy far, far away stops spinning and the team at Star Wars Insider don’t stop either. After an enforced break over the summer due to the COVID-19 crisis, the magazine is well and truly back in the saddle and issue 199 highlights that, with a gaggle of galaxy-spanning interviews, the return of original fiction and much more besides.

On the interview front, I was fortunate enough to chat with Star Wars legend Ahmed Best about his return to Star Wars in Jedi Temple Challenge, an experience he was thrilled to be a part of – just imagine the ovation he’s going to receive at Celebration Anaheim in 2022, and of course his time as Jar Jar Binks.

Vader Immortal gets an inside look as Kristin Baver and ILMxLAB give us a peek inside the groundbreaking VR experience, while Amy Ratcliffe catches up with the one and only Ashley Eckstein to talk Ahsoka, Her Universe and more. Amy Richau joins the magazine with her first article, a look at the Jedi Masters of the Jedi Council and then the precursor to the main event, a conversation with the authors behind The High Republic as they explain the lay of the land behind the new Star Wars era.

You will have read our review of Starlight: Part One – Go Together by Charles Soule, detailing a seemingly ordinary day on Starlight Beacon  – come on, when is anything ever ordinary in the Star Wars galaxy? I had the chance to talk with Sam Witwer about the return of Maul in the final season of The Clone Wars and how season seven was a worthy finale for the venerable series and the issue wraps up with James Floyd chatting to E.K. Johnston about her two Padme novels Queen’s Peril and Queen’s Shadow.

We caught up with Insider editor Chris Cooper recently on Canon Fodder to discuss #199 and the forthcoming blockbuster #200, and we’ll be catching up with him again during 2021, but for now grab a copy of your official magazine, set aside an undisturbed hour and get your fix of Order 66.
