Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Child

Din Djarin, the terse Mandalorian bounty hunter, travels the galaxy with the adorable Grogu in tow. Whether he is keeping Grogu from messing with the ship’s controls or stopping him from using the Force to steal extra snacks, Mando’s lessons as a caretaker will be instantly fun and recognizable to all families.

Brown’s colorful all-ages style and spin complement the show’s gritty milieu while accentuating the sweetness of the found family at the heart of the story. His unexpectedly funny touches and twists, and lighthearted interpretations of favorite characters, including Bo-Katan, Moff Gideon, The Armorer, Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, IG-11, Peli Motto, and many more, will thrill fans and give them a way to appreciate all three seasons of the show in a whole new way.

There’s an understandable temptation to only think of the books of Jeffrey Brown as gifting options, and while they certainly are the perfect present for any friend or member of the family, there’s plenty more to these books than stuffing a stocking. Indeed, a browse through the opening pages of this 64 page hardback take us right back to familiar places: The school of Nevarro, the lava field, the sands of Tatooine, the cockpit of the Razor Crest, and as we flick through the pages, packed with Brown’s usual charming artwork and observations, we’re reminded just how much we’ve seen in the 24 episodes of The Mandalorian so far, and how deep this relationship between Djarin and Grogu is.

As for characters, they’re all here. Ahsoka, IG-11, the Armorer, Bo-Katan and many more are present, while we also delve into the two episodes of The Book of Boba Fett as we head to Ossus and watch Luke and Artoo as the quietly see Luke and Grogu reunite. We fly in the Razor Crest, see his modified N-1, meet Doctor Pershing, travel to the Mines of Mandalore and even get a scene with Porgs, Ewoks, Wookiees, Hutts and Loth-Cats. Suffice it to say, it’s packed with smart puns, cute images and a lot of heart.

Indeed, reading through the book reveals so many familiar faces it’s genuinely impressive, and of course while it’s non-canon and aimed at kids (of all ages) there’s geniuine heart and smart observations that only reinforce the relationship which has become the core of the show that people have connected to so passionately.

His seventh Star Wars book, it’s another engrossing entry that switches time and place to bring us fresh looks at characters we know well, but have yet to have the Jeffrey Brown treatment. Great fun and full of wit and charm, it certainly makes a great present for that loved one who enjoys the GFFA but is also well worth buying in its own right to join your Jeffrey Brown library.
