Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Republic Under Siege #2

THE VENGEANCE GAMBIT

Preparing to make his final stand against the New Republic, Moff Adelhard began forging new alliances with some remaining Imperial leaders, yet within his so-called Empire, many hold secret allegiances.

Meanwhile, on the planet Lenahis in the Outer Rim, Luke Skywalker and Rynn Zenat fought to protect an ancient Jedi Compendium from the dark side cult the Acolytes of the Beyond. But their mission was foiled by Doctor Aphra, who has taken the Compendium for her own uses.

While Adelhard has yet to convince all Imperial factions, he is now allied with the Acolytes of the Beyond as well as the Spice Runners of Kijimi, and his forces are gaining strength. Now the New Republic must figure out the Governor’s next steps before he deals his final blow….

Mon Mothma’s stoic concern. The edginess of Luke Skywalker, ignited green lightsaber at the ready, flanked by a tense New Republic pilot Rynn Zenat, and opportunist archaeologist Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra. The primary cover of issue #6 of Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Republic Under Siege (#2) sets a risky stage before the story inside even gets to scream a warning of looming and expanding danger.

There is a quick backstory explanation of Luke and Aphra having a history [note in comic: see Doctor Aphra Vol.2, #32, “Holocron Mark”], but even that is immediately interrupted by a territorial klyff’wat, a massive swamp monster chasing them on Lehanis. Luke reluctantly deals with the beast but stresses his real concern is the time they are losing after being sent on a wild goose chase.

At the same time, aboard a Star Destroyer above the planet Souwecer, a “Consortium of Shadows” converge. It is led by Gallus Rax and includes Grand Admiral Rae Sloane, Grand General Loring, and Grand Moff Randd. Rax hints to Loring that he is aware of the grand general’s side conversations with Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard, but almost toys with him before commanding, “It is time we activate our agent in the Anoat Sector.”

Outside the Anoat Sector, Lando Calrissian and Preeti are the only pilots able to escape with their lives as Adelhard, Reyna Obscura, and Lieutenant Alaytia snipe at one another aboard their Imperial Star Destroyer. More and more elements are brought into play by Adelhard for his plans. This includes bounty hunters.

One is Lan-Drus, an Arconian, and the other we are introduced to, but with no name, on the planet Kewwil. A Trandoshan is seen killing a would-be New Republic senator and reporting into Tomasso, a high-level member of the Spice Runners of Kijimi.
