“HAVOC AT THE ACCRETION DISCO, PART ONE”
Reeling from her team’s failed mission against Crimson Dawn, T’onga is in desperate need of credits to keep her crew together. With open bounties few and far between, she may have no choice but to accept an offer of employment from the woman who defeated her—the diabolical Qi’ra! To avoid that fate, however, she may be putting the team in even more peril.
Valance is also treading on unstable ground, handpicked by Darth Vader to lead an elite team ferreting out Crimson Dawn moles within the Imperial military. He may have started out serving the Empire against his will, but despite his protestations, the mantle is starting to grow disturbingly comfortable….

While there are numerous nightmare scenarios in the Star Wars galaxy, few can be as terrifying as being hunted down by Boba Fett, but that’s where we find T’onga on the opening page of Bounty Hunters #27. Waking up with a start from that particular nightmare, she gathers herself and checks on Losha who is working out and Bossk, who is sssssleeping. In the cockpit, Zuckuss and Tasu Leech are on shift, regaling each other with stories as T’onga asks their position. They’re on their way to work for the Pykes, a dangerous endeavour that requires the team to be on the same page and ready to go, and T’onga briefs her crew about said mission. They’re to keep the Pykes safe while they celebrate a win over a rival at a location known as the Accretion Disco, situated on the lip of a black hole.
Their welcome is less than generous, especially the Pykes attitude towards Tasu Leech as we shift from the station to the ISD Righteous Fist and Valance, sat alone with a growing collection of alcoholic drinks he can’t enjoy or even taste. A female officer sends a drink his way, but his lack of interest is disturbed by the arrival of General Bordeaux, the self-proclaimed Hero of Hoth who begins to humble brag about his achievements before Valance leaves and heads for the office of Lieutenant Haydenn who listens to Valance as he looks back at her offer to be with him and kisses the cyborg before he can say anymore.
We cut back to the Accretion Disco as T’onga scopes out the surroundings and thinks of her relationship with Losha, one that is waning in emotion and passion. She breaks up a simmering argument between the Pykes and Leech, who’s affiliations threaten to get him into trouble before the Kanjiklub enemy they are there to protect the Pykes from arrive and open fire, leading T’onga to begin formulating tactics, 4-LOM and Zuckuss heading up the stairs and Leech protecting the head Pyke. Losha, clearly not her usual self, gets pinned back by an assassin but headbutts her way to win the fight, and falls into the arms of T’onga who arrives to help.
We end the issue as Kanjiklub have Tasu boxed in, explaining how the Pykes bombed their training center while they slept, and we wrap up with Tasu stood over the dead body of the lead Pyke, Omel. Did he kill him or step aside to allow Kanji to do the deed? We don’t know, but Ethan Sacks, Paolo Villanelli and the team have once again delivered a fast-paced, 90’s evoking, snappy action story that leaves the reader wanting more – what else can you hope for from a title called Bounty Hunters? Great job as usual.
