The anthology series continues with a little something for the Prequels and The Clone Wars fans with a story about Aurra Sing and Zam Wessel. It seems only fitting in the 20th anniversary year of Attack of the Clones and with the strong recent focus on bounty hunters with The Book of Boba Fett and the crossover event War of the Bounty Hunters.

If you put your cynicism aside for the purpose of this series it has been quite pleasant and low stakes so far and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The ongoing comic series’, The High Republic and the recent TV series’ have been making bold moves, repurposing the Universe into something they can maintain and expand upon moving forward. This means changing our perspective on tentpole events and characters and redefining what Star Wars is in 2022. It’s nice to go on some straight forward adventures with old friends and adversaries. It’s the adult version of what IDW does with the Star Wars Adventures series and all of the wonderful Forces of Destiny releases. Characters like Sing and Wessel aren’t strong enough to maintain their own titles, not to mention the fact that Lucasfilm seems to be refocusing on post-Order 66 events and the Original Trilogy cast of characters. Series like this are the only place we are going to these characters. I’m glad they have a place at the table and wish that this was the aim of this comic run.

The overarching story is still quite vague, acting more as a framing device for the flashback shorts, but my interest is definitely piqued. If only because it might be the only “adult” sequel era content we are getting at the moment, along with maybe the upcoming novel Shadows of the Sith but that might sit more in Aftermath/Mando/New Republic era set after Return of the Jedi. It’s refreshing seeing things like The First Order and the Resistance referenced. I hope they take that further and we start seeing some familiar Sequel-era faces and locations. The obvious upcoming reveal of Cruise Director Lenka Mok’s identity or allegiances will hopefully open the door to more Age of Resistance references and cameo’s.
I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed two of the remaining issues are focusing on Anakin and Padme and Bossk as we aren’t lacking for stories of either.  Halycon Legacy #4 centering around Hondo is exciting though and really zeroes in on what these anthology tie-ins should be about. Moving forward though I can only hope we get a little more personality injected into the Halycon and its crew as that’s something that Batuu and it’s residents had in droves.
