It’s that time of year, when the team at Columbia bring us their latest Star Wars collection, and after previous excursions to Hoth, the Dark Side, Rogue One, the light side and the dark and even Skywalker Pilot flight suits, we arrive on the forest moon of Endor, and that brings with it this mightily impressive General Han Solo Trench coat, a Buffalo Camo unisex release costing £585.00 available in XXS to XXL sizes that not only delivers the trench itself but also includes a vest which allows for a 3-in-1 wearing option, perfect for hiding from vengeful Imperials and hungry Ewoks.

The vest is very comfortable, with plenty of press stud pockets to hide equipment in, and most eye-catchingly the Special-Edition Omni‑Heat Infinity tech in gold with Rebel Alliance symbols that makes it a genuinely warm vest to wear. Much like last years Vader Collection jacket (with striking red Special-Edition Omni‑Heat Infinity and the Skywalker Pilot Collection jumpsuit in red and gold) it’s like wearing a very toasty, heated blanket. Perhaps the full ensemble might not be worn throughout the year outside of Star Wars related events, but the vest certainly will.

On to the General Han Solo Trench itself, this really is an impressive coat. With a two-way zip for flexibility, zipped pockets (a very welcome feature on most of the jackets pockets, something many other jackets don’t provide) a removable and adjustable hood with some fantastic detailing, and Omni-Tech inside to keep you completely dry should it start pouring, and all designed around a lightweight coat that looks great fully buttoned up or open.

The jacket is loaded with detailing, like the leather Rebel Alliance insignia and the aurebesh on the inside of the jacket. While being designed to be similar to the jacket Harrison Ford wore in Return of the Jedi, this is very much a real-world coat that gives you everything you could want from a trench coat, a while non-GFFA lovers might not quite ‘get it’, you’re not wearing it for them. Lovers of Episode VI will appreciate the detail and craft on display here, and almost certainly want to try it on.

Many thanks to Columbia for sending us the coat to review, and to my wife Ruth for taking the photographs. You can shop the General Han Solo Trench here, and the wider Star Wars The Endor Collection here.
