Room sales are often a highlight of the Celebration scene for vintage Star Wars friends and collectors although due to its increasing size it’s name is becoming more and more obsolete. It’s spread by word of mouth to avoid suspicious looking large groups dominating areas selling toys… I mean what could possibly be seen odd in that?
This year an unnamed hotel shut down our room sales despite having the perfect location and space available. Despite our promises of spending a lot of money at the bar they would not allow us to continue but thankfully the Novotel were wonderful and extremely accommodating. They got our money that night and the next one as a reward for their hospitality and welcoming.
You never know what you’re going to find at room sales but this one had items for everyone’s budget ranging from badges, books and paperwork right through to proof cards and first shots! Here is a sample of what was on offer:
Andy Preston, known for his vintage UK based collecting had a wonderful assortment of badges and paperwork which is displayed here with Jason Smith’s bottomless pile of used cardbacks.
A wonderful assortment of proof cards in immaculate condition with some valued at over £12000!
The first time I’ve seen a 12 back Meccano Princess Leia together with a Chewbacca both offered for 4 figures.
For MOC collectors there were other treats like this Mexican Lily Ledy Boba Fett, Palitoy and Kenner delights.
For loose collectors there was a wonderful assortment of graded and ungraded figures together with an eye-watering First Shot Vlix which exists in very low numbers as Kenner pulled the line before they went into production.
And finally, for the collector who is after something different and not related to toys then you were also catered for.
Room sales are often fast and furious, most dealers have time to set up on the floor space but this poor dealer couldn’t even get his items out of the suitcase!
Often fast and furious initially, room sales settle down fairly quickly to become a much more relaxed environment. It was definitely the highlight of this year’s Celebration for me as I got to meet so many of my good friends whilst relaxing with a beer or two.
