Box Office takings for The Last Jedi are showing very positive signs of longevity which have changed projections to $639 million domestic (fifth-biggest of all time) and $1.392 billion worldwide.

These numbers are based on analysis by Forbes showing that The Last Jedi is performing very similarly to Rogue One, bucking claims of it being a box office turnoff:

After a $220 million opening weekend closer to The Force Awakens ($247m) than Rogue One ($155m), it suffered a second-weekend drop (-67%) closer to Batman v Superman but then scored a near-record third-weekend hold (-26%) for a $100m+ opener. Last weekend, the new Star Wars film essentially tied with Rogue One in terms of fourth-weekend grosses ($24m vs. $22m) and holds (-55% vs -57%). And while The Force Awakens dropped 74% on its 25th day (Monday) from its 24th day (Sunday), Rogue One dropped 72% and The Last Jedi dropped 73%.

By the end of its fourth weekend, The Force Awakens had $812 million domestic and $1.73 billion worldwide, while Rogue One had earned $477m domestic and $914m worldwide. With all the ups and downs thus far, partially due to the holiday schedule, The Last Jedi had earned $573m domestic and $1.205b worldwide by day 24. That’s a domestic weekend-to-total multiplier of 2.6x, compared to the 3.27x multiplier for The Force Awakens and 2.88x multiplier for Rogue One.

But Force Awakens had another 15% of its $937 million domestic total and 19.5% of its $2.068 billion global total left to go. Rogue One had 11.5% left of its eventual $532m and 15% of its $1.056b of its global grosses left unearned. Heck, as of Tuesday, the film has grossed $576.9m domestic and $1.222.9b worldwide. It should pass Fate of the Furious ($1.236b worldwide) tomorrow to become the second-biggest grosser of 2017, behind Beauty and the Beast ($1.263b). So, as noted above, from this point onward, give or take variables, will Last Jedi play more like Rogue One or Force Awakens?
