Could Star Wars Pod Racing Be The F1 Of The Future?

When it comes to racing, nothing currently comes close to Formula One. It’s very much out there on its own in terms of vehicles going head to head. However, while all is well and good in the world of F1, some people are already thinking about what could come along in future.

Believe it or not, Star Wars, one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, has been the source of inspiration when some are discussing what could be next for Formula 1 or the racing of vehicles in general. Yes, we know this sounds kind of weird, but stick with us, as we will attempt to explain the rationale behind the thinking.

The idea to merge Formula 1 and Star Wars is the idea of a French company that goes by the name of MACA, renowned for producing the first hydrogen-powered flying racing car. So, there is actually substance behind the whole idea of this being elevated in a way that would make it the future of Formula 1. MACA insists the future is in the air, and they’re out to prove it.

All the recent talk has been that the French creation mentioned above will be unveiled this year before going on to debut at circuits in France, Italy and the US by 2024. And everything is being done within the framework set out by the FIA. But what would be the odds on dominating any F1 season in future in the MACA production or something similar?

Flying cars have been talked up for a long time, but for them to not only become a thing but to challenge Formula 1 within the next couple of years seems slightly far-fetched. Of course, there would be tons of interest if it’s something that becomes a reality anytime soon, but Formula 1 is proving more popular than ever, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down in terms of its growth and how many people tune in to watch the action unfold.

What is more likely to happen is that MACA and others will be concepts for a while, and there will be a need for tweaks and changes to be implemented before they become viable products. Then, when they’re ready to go, which will likely take many years when you consider the need for bespoke tracks and the like, the whole idea will need marketing correctly to bring it to the fore.

But, in that time, it’s not like Formula 1 isn’t going to have continued moving forward. It’s one of the fastest-growing sports, and it’s already streets ahead of the competition, which is where you can expect it to stay for the next couple of decades at least. However, watching flying cars race, akin to Star Wars modules, wouldn’t necessarily be something that people won’t have any interest in because it would be revolutionary.
