There’s no official word so this could be wistful thinking – or it might be something – as Mats Helge Holm, one of the development team on the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise which delivered two blockbuster games in 2015 and 2017, posted on Reddit that the team behind the hit games are keen to reunite and deliver a third Star Wars: Battlefront game, something the fandom was very much looking forward to when the series was breaking records for Star Wars game sales.
“Me, and having heard around my group of ex-colleagues, we want to get the gang back together.”
In related news, Battlefront 2 had a huge surge in players on Steam, breaking the record for the ‘most concurrent players on Steam‘.
Star Wars Battlefront II, which was released seven years ago, back in November 2017, has set a new record for the most concurrent players on Steam. According to SteamDB, the game had 18,060 concurrent players on May 25.
It is worth noting that the game did not immediately appear on Steam, as it was originally available in EA’s own application (at that time Origin). The release on Steam, and at the same time on the Epic Games Store, took place in 2020. The total number of players on PC and consoles is probably many times higher.
This return was partly due to the release of the second season of the series Andor and the collaboration of the Star Wars franchise with the Fortnite battle royale, which launched in early May.
The original Battlefront series also delivered two entries in 2004 and 2005, so if a third game was greenlit and brought to consoles under the stewardship of the team that created the previous game and delivered 9 milion units sold, would you be interested?
