If you’re a long time listener to our podcasts, or a reader of the news here on the site, then you’ll know how much we admire and appreciate Neil Livesey and Paul Dunne. Through their annual Star Wars Fan Fun Day they not only celebrate the saga, but raise money – a lot of money – for East Lancashire Hospice, and they’ve done it almost every year for the past two decades. They’re already the pride of the UK fan community, and now they’ve been nominated for a Pride of Britain award, for which we wish them all the luck in the galaxy.
Two friends behind one of the country’s biggest Star Wars fan events have been nominated for a Pride of Britain award.
Paul Dunne and Neil Livesey host an annual Star Wars Fan Fun Day on 4 May every year, with the proceeds going towards the East Lancashire Hospice Trust.
The pair have hosted the event at Blackburn’s Ewood Park for 18 years, which gives Star Wars super fans from across the North West and beyond the opportunity to meet members of the franchise’s cast and crew.
They are amongst four nominees for Granada’s Pride of Britain Regional Fundraiser Award. The winner will go forward to the national Regional Fundraiser of the Year competition and the overall winner will be announced at a glittering ceremony in London in October.
