It’s tough to imagine anyone with any interest in the adventures set in a galaxy far, far away not being excited at the opportunities presented by the trailer and those ranks are swelled by the excitement shown by John Williams, who is beavering away at his final Star Wars score.
Speaking with Ben Hoyle of The Times, he delved into his process and the progress he has made on The Rise of Skywalker.
Williams beams when he talks about watching an early cut of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which will bring the nine-film space saga to an end this Christmas. He likes what he has seen “very much” and has so far written about 25 minutes of score in about a month.”
And unsurprisingly his process has altered over the decades.
“I don’t write any better than I did 30 years ago. Maybe not as well. I probably know more than I did 30 years ago, but I have less physical energy.”
In his personal life, Williams is in a better place, and as such is enjoying Star Wars and current trilogy “so much better.” With George Lucas long since retired and Williams signing off after The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars will be almost entirely in the hands of creatives born or raised in the Star Wars era. To know he is leaving the GFFA on a high is heartwarming, as is the knowledge that he’s not retiring from composing or from Lucasfilm as we have Indiana Jones 5 coming our way in 2021.
