EVENT : York Unleashed – York’s Own Comic-Con!

On Sunday 11^th August 2019 York Unleashed is back for its fifth year and it just keeps getting better!!  We are on every floor of the racecourse as there are just so many exciting things to see and do!

We have special guests from movies and TV for you to meet!   Come and get an autograph from the eighth Doctor Paul McGann, or even a selfie or two with Slytherins finest bullying double act Crabbe and Goyle, or why not book a Doctor Bell photo op with the Death Eater, Jon Campling.   If you want to hear about puppeteering then Mike Quinn is the man you need to chat with, Arti Shah and Clem So both have fascinating stories of their time on set.  However, York Unleashed would not be complete without our resident guests Pam Rose and Spencer Wilding.  We are so proud that Spencer is recently appearing on screen as the amazing alien, Luca Brasi in the latest Men in Black.  Head and shoulders above everything else is the Jaws movie display!  Have your photo taken with you hanging out of the sharks mouth…trust me it is so realistic you will be pleased that they are no beaches in York!   Want something a little bit smaller and less fishy then jump on the cinema chairs and have your photo taken with those mischievous Gremlins.  Your photo opportunities don’t stop there as we also have the scariest spider of them all, Aragog, a dedicated family friendly horror zone set, a Ghostbusters Containment Unit, plus other life sized movie displays including a 12ft dinosaur!  On stage we will be entertained by some high energy Japanese drumming along with another high energy act, Celeste St Clair, a local entertainer who can’t wait to perform for us.   Hanging around the venue we also have everyone’s favourite Transformers, Bumble Bee and Optimus Prime who are always available for high-5’s but if you don’t want to see the robots out of their disguise then check out the selection of movie based cars in the courtyard.   Feeling in need of a cuddle?  Then our lovable, cuddly, blue monster Sulley will be on hand to take your blues away!   Fancy something more virtual?  Then check out our VR gaming area or have a blast in the shooting gallery!  Star Wars fans can learn how to play the card game Sabacc with the Rebel Legion….just don’t go losing  your falcon!   On show we have a very special lego display, all built by Kendra, an amazing little girl who is displaying her work to raise money for charity.  The Cosplosion area will be running mini-demo’s on cosplaying and prop building……don’t miss seeing them as it is a great way to expand on your cosplay costumes or maybe it might just give you that nudge you have been waiting for to get you into cosplay.  There will also be plenty of superhero’s to have your photo taken with and keep your eye open for our Harry Potter delivery owl flying overhead or our wrestlers being placed in some rather uncomfortable positions!  Gorywoodfx are available to provide some temporary special effects make-up so why not let them give you a scar or two!  If you are coming in costume then be transported into brand new realms by Doctor Bell’s Magical Mirrorless Picture Box powered by hamsters and pixies!  There will be cosplay competitions for those who like to come along in character with the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes!  To top it all off, there will be geeky traders with tons of geeky toys, comics, collectables, art, jewellery, gaming and so much more….there is something for everyone!

No, just pay on the door from 11am

Are refreshments available?

Yes, we have dedicated the whole of the top floor as a restaurant just for you.  With super facilities, great service, wonderful food and a bar it is a great place to chill whilst admiring any purchase or simply catching up with your friends!
