Hamill surprised at the changes in Luke Skywalker

CinemaBlend sat down with Mark Hamill to discuss The Last Jedi, and learnt about his reaction on first reading the script.  The change in Luke Skywalker surprised Hamill:

Well, without giving anything away, ‘It’s time for the Jedi to end?’ Are you kidding me? I was the most optimistic, hopeful character in all the movies. How could he arrive at a place where he’s a cynical hermit. It’s beyond comprehension.

Asked how he felt about the change Hamill was very blunt in his assessment:

Appalled. Yeah. A Jedi never gives up. If he makes a mistake he corrects it.

However Hamill came to love the story and arc for his character.  Check out the video below for the interview:
