The latest release in a series of books that can’t fail to put a smile on your face, Be More Lando pulls the curtain back on the coolest cat in the galaxy, an operator so smooth he not only navigated the lethal waters of dealing with the dark lord Darth Vader but also developed a varied career that included gambling, smuggling and baron administrating. You could argue that of the four books in the series so far, Lando has the most variety in terms of careers.

As always the book delves into the character of the subject, this time round looking at how he got started, and interestingly ‘perfecting your business persona’. That’s key for Lando, a character with more front than Blackpool. In business as well as in his beloved gambling, that ‘front’ has arguably been his most effective tool and author Christian Blauvelt digs into that, explaining how to stand out from the crowd, be approachable – that mighty ego requires more taming than an angry rancor – and talking the talk, something Lando never had a problem with.

The book moves on to look at networking, something Lando did very well during his career, and winning the best deal. The first time we met him back in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back saw the deal in question get worse all the time, but he did manage to survive the encounter while 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story detailed a similarly rough deal thanks to the bartering of Tobias Becket. For the most part Lando has fared well.

As a wheeler dealer, wining the best deal is essential and that chapter gives examples of the great man as well as ones from other characters from the saga (including Beckett), all laid out in the stylish format that worked so well for the previous three books.

The final section of the book looks at enjoying your success, and it’s here that the book coalesces as a mini ‘how to succeed in business’ manual, while giving handy tips on how to be a success while not letting it go to your head. It also nimbly flicks from Billy Dee Williams to Donald Glover so well you barely notice that two different actors played the role, the only regret being that the book came out just 2 months before the arrival of The Rise of Skywalker, meaning we don’t get to enjoy images from the return of Billy Dee in the final Skywalker Saga episode. Not that it’s a deal breaker (something you’ll read plenty about here) – it’s just another excuse to revisit the book sometime in the future for an updated edition.

With four books in the series there’s definitely plenty of mileage in the concept, and we can only hope that some of the other many characters in the saga get their moment in the Blauvelt spotlight, as not only do they look great on the shelf but occupy your time in the most enjoyable way. Hats off all round.
