The Mos Eisley Cantina is one of our favourite scenes from the original Star Wars movie, and here are four of our favourite aliens from that scene…
Figrin D’an And The Modal Nodes
Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes was an all-Bith music band, specializing in the genres of jizz and jatz. The bandleader and organizer was an overbearing, compulsive Bith named “Fiery” Figrin D’an. The Modal Nodes were members of the Intergalactic Federation of Musicians (IFM) and maintained a reputable standing within the trade guild. The band’s matching stage costumes were somber in tone and reflected the moody aesthetics attributed to their preferred style of music. Although the Modal Nodes enjoyed success on the intergalactic circuit, they never rose to great prominence beyond the Outer Rim Territories worlds, in part because they never incorporated vocalists into their act. The Modal Nodes were known for playing the card game Sabacc, and so would probably have enjoyed checking out https://woocasino.bet/ when they were not playing in the band.
Kardue’sai’Malloc
Kardue’sai’Malloc was a Devaronian army captain and devoted music aficionado with a massive collection of rare recordings. When his unit was deployed against a rebellion on Devaron, Malloc captured seven hundred rebel men, women, and children in the city of Montellian Serat and shelled the city. Interpreting his orders to move on without the prisoners as double-speak ordering their executions, he had all the prisoners rounded up and killed, earning him the nickname “The Butcher of Montellian Serat.”
Malloc resigned from the military and fled his world’s retribution, spending years following his favorite musical performers across the galaxy and avoiding bounty hunters seeking to collect the five-million-credit bounty placed on him. He eventually settled on Tatooine, where he lived under the alias “Labria” and made a living as an information broker. Regarded as the worst spy in Mos Eisley, he spent most of his time drunk in Chalmun’s Spaceport Cantina.
Momaw Nadon
Momaw Nadon served his people for decades as high priest of the Tafanda Bay. After the rise of the Galactic Empire, Ithor was threatened. The newly-established Empire demanded access to Ithorian agricultural techniques and technology. Such information was sacred to the Ithorian people, and they refused. Nadon, however, was compelled to reveal this technology to save the surface of Ithor to prevent further damage of their ‘mother jungle’ from the turbolasers of the Imperial fleet. He revealed this knowledge to Imperial Captain Alima, under the threat of further decimation of the world.
Despite saving his homeworld from destruction, the Ithorian Elders nevertheless punished him for his sacrilegious deeds. Usually being a sentence of death, Nadon was able to call in a favor from a friend, and the “traitor” was then exiled. During his exile, Nadon settled on Tatooine.
Ponda Baba
Ponda Baba was a male Aqualish thug who rescued Dr. Cornelius Evazan from a bounty hunter. The two formed a partnership and began to smuggle spice for the crime lord Jabba the Hutt, resulting in him becoming a wanted man. Shortly before the Battle of Yavin, he was a patron in Chalmun’s Spaceport Cantina on the planet Tatooine, where he instigated an argument with Luke Skywalker while bored and drunk. Evazan claimed that Baba did not like Skywalker and began to threaten the youth, leading to a brief confrontation with Obi-Wan Kenobi, who, after failing to calm tensions with the pirates, used his lightsaber to sever Baba’s right arm and wound Evazan with a slash across the torso when the pair drew their blaster pistols on the old man, who was in secret one of the last remaining Jedi Masters of the nearly extinct Jedi Order.
Evazan later tried to reattach Baba’s arm using his medical training, but ended up nearly killing the Aqualish in the process when the procedure failed.
